If you’ve ever walked out of a spray tan appointment feeling like a bronzed goddess, only to watch your glow fade within days... you’re not alone. The good news? With the right prep and aftercare, your spray tan can last longer, fade evenly, and keep you glowing for up to 10 days or more.
As someone who’s been in the tanning biz for over 20 years, I’ve learned that a flawless tan doesn’t end when you leave the studio—it starts long before you step into the tent.
Here’s my go-to guide for making your spray tan last longer, so you can glow with confidence, longer.
1. Prep Like a Pro (24-48 Hours Before)

Prepping your skin is everything. To get the most out of your tan:
Exfoliate gently using a scrub or exfoliating mitt to remove dead skin cells
Avoid oil-based scrubs—they leave a barrier on your skin
Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your appointment to avoid open pores
Skip heavy moisturizers or deodorants the day of your tan—these can block the tan from developing evenly
2. On Tan Day: Keep It Clean & Simple

On the day of your appointment:
Shower with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser
Don’t apply lotions, oils, makeup, or deodorant before your tan
Wear loose, dark clothing and avoid tight bras or leggings post-tan
Think: "comfy airport outfit" vibes. Trust me, your tan will develop beautifully without rubbing or creasing.
3. First Shower: Timing Is Key

Depending on the solution used, I’ll give you specific rinse-off times—usually 2 to 8 hours post-tan.
When rinsing, use warm water only. No soap and avoid scrubbing.
Pat your skin dry gently with a towel—don’t rub. No gym, sweating, or water exposure until after your first rinse.
4. Lock It In with Moisture

This is where the magic happens. After your first rinse, moisturizing daily will extend your tan and prevent patchy fading.
Choose a fragrance-free, alcohol-free lotion and apply it morning and night.
5. Avoid These Tan Killers

To protect your glow, avoid:
Long hot baths or chlorine pools
Harsh body scrubs or exfoliants
Shaving frequently (or too soon after tanning)
Products with AHAs, BHAs, or retinols—these exfoliate your skin faster
6. Glow On Repeat: Top It Up at Home

Want to stretch your tan past the 7-day mark?
Use a gradual tanning mousse every few days to deepen your glow and even out fading areas. My Velvet Mousse Luxury is ultra-hydrating, non-sticky, and blends seamlessly into your existing tan.
