I hope everyone has enjoyed a well earned rest during the Christmas break and January holidays…I know I did! You know when you had a good rest when you start thinking about work and start missing your clients!  Yes I tell you no lie I started to miss the chit chat and the banter that I have with all my clients and I guess I started to feel like a piece of me was missing. . .the part of me that genuinely enjoys and gets pleasure from making women look beautiful and sexy.

Speaking of feeling beautiful and sexy, today I would like to blog on Male Manicures.  Most boys will never admit in public if they enjoy being pampered with a Manicure.  I guess it does not sound manly even though the word starts with “Man”inure!!

Regardless, if your man is a ‘tradie’ or works in the office they all can use a helping hand.  After all presentation is important on or off the job and in your personal life and professional life.  At first there may be some hesitation expressed at your suggestion. . .its only a natural reaction followed by a mock on what colour polish to apply but be warned once they experience a manicure it will be hard to go back to the unkept look.

Lets have a look at reasons to convince your man to have a Manicure

1. Sexy Factor - your man likes to take pride in his appearance – trust me they all do- and this is another way they can extend their grooming regime to give them that clean polished look
2. Pampering - It feels great when we get our nails done.  So your man will receive that same pampering feeling of being looked after – hey ladies you might even get lucky that night!  Men need pampering its what’s missing in their life.
3. Relaxing - Is your man a bit stressed from all his work commitments?  This is the perfect solution to help them forget their problems and distract him with something new and different.
4. Healthy Hands - You can improve the health and well being of your partners hands and nails.  Remove all the extra cuticle and hangnails that has overgrown and trim for a cleaner look.  Exfoliation scrubs can be used to slough dead skin away on his hands as men generally have tougher skin then you and me.
5. It looks great - The fast pace of our modern lifestyle is very stressful and the pressure is on all of us.  However the modern lifestyle can make a man look older than his years.  They say that you can always tell a woman’s age from her hands so why not a man?

A Softer Touch - We all love when our man touches  and caresses us.  But the touch may be a bit rough if those hands are never moisturised or generally unkept.  Trust me there is nothing like the feel of  a male manicured hand on your body.

How to Perform a Manicure For Your Man

NB If your man has very rough hands with over grown cuticles, you can soak his hands for 5 minutes in a bowl of warm soapy water or warm olive oil to soften the skin around the nails and hands

1. File his nails short or clip them with a nail clipper if they are really long followed by a file into shape.  Just follow the natural shape whether its square or oval.
2. Buff the nail plate with a natural course buffer.  It will remove the old nail plate and expose the brand new nail plate underneath.  Any yellow stains can be removed and a healthy pink nail is restored.
3. Push back cuticles with a wooden stick or cuticle pusher.  Be careful not to force to hard as unmaintained cuticles can bleed if forced to hard.
4. Lightly trim the cuticle making sure to cut off just the excess and not cut too deep.  If bleeding occurs use a disinfectant and hold for a minute.  It will heal quickly.
5. Buff the nails with a rough surface buffer once more, followed by a shiny gloss buff finish.  Apply a little oil around the edges of the cuticle to finish off the look.  Some men might even like the glossy polish look with clear polish applied on top.  But most will be happy with a natural neat finish.

Now your man has gorgeous hands to touch you with!  But be warned ladies this pampering could be very addictive. . . and you will be manicuring his hands every week like me!!

Hope all is well in your world. .

The latest trend in the Nail World is One Feature Nail on both hands!!  That is girls you apply the gel or shellac on all your nails except one finger is a completely different colour.  Just one feature nail on both hands and the same digit.  Having said that we can apply this trend to separate hands and digits after all rules are made to be broken.  However, I think I prefer a little consistency with my trends.

Each week I see my clients trying to deliberate what colour is going to be applied. . .

Can I go for a couple of weeks with this colour?

Is it a reflection of my personality? Is it me?

What outfit am I wearing during the week ?

Do I have a special occasion to attend and a dress to match?

Do I want to get noticed or do I want to blend in?

When choosing the two colours don’t be afraid if they clash

Main                red set gels or shellac

Feature nail  pink

Main                black

Feature nail   white

There is no hard and fast rule on this trend.  Simply choose your two favourite colours and co ordinate them together.

Go on I dare you to be different!!  All your friends will follow suit as soon as they see you wearing it.

It’s good to stand out of the crowd and be a little left off centre.  As all my clients know that I am definitely a bit like that, life would be pretty ordinary if we all are the same.

So do not be afraid and dare to be different!

A Perfect Match!

Its Spring !!and  its so much easier to get up in the morning. As you stumble to get your coffee at least we are not ‘chilled out’ to the core. And so it is time when the trees start to blossom and the baby birds start to sing that the oh so Glamorous and Special time of the year is here. . .The Wedding Season
In the last few weeks I have been spraytanning a number of brides and it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to be a part of this memorable day.
I encourage all brides to come past my salon at least 1 month prior to the day. This is when the pressure is not as strong as it is when its closer to the set date. The bride to be is more relaxed and I am able to establish certain expectations that each individual bride to be has. Naturally we can discuss spraytan colour expectations as well as make bookings to cater for the bridal party. As I have been pointing out that there is nothing more embarrassing than having your wedding photos taken and a member of the bridal party looks completely orange!! After all these special photos are there for the rest of your life. .with a forever orange girl that takes YOUR centre stage!
Brides take note if you want to be the centre of attention on your very special day (and you deserve it ) do not allow your bridal party to tan in different salons. A consistent colour theme needs to be maintained through out. This also includes the hubby to be and his crew.
By the same token the bride and groom should not be too dissimilar in their skin tones. The photos look more appealing and less photoshop is required when both parties are in a similar skin tone and ‘match’ each other. I strongly encourage for brides to ‘drag’ in their other halves when you are coming in for a trial bridal tan. I love to watch as the grooms really feel a bit uncomfortable in a salon environment but who can blame them?? It is hard I compare it to going to a garage to get my car repaired. I am totally out of my comfort zone where I do not know what is happening and the pheromones are masculine and strange. Its the same for the grooms.
That’s why I do prefer and encourage the brides to stay in the room when I’m spraying the man for the first time. It feels better for everyone and there is less tension. The men feel at ease when their girl is in the room and she provides emotional support. After all it is intimidating to be practically nude in front of a female that you have never met!!
But nothing gives me as much pleasure and satisfaction as watching the groom walk over to the mirror and look at himself after my spraytan. . their muscles are a lot more defined and their egos just sky rocket! And trust me girls there is nothing worse than a man who has no ego. .

So to all my Beautiful Brides please book in your trial spraytan at least 1 month ahead of your wedding day.  It gives me a chance to accommodate you and your bridal party in every way I can which includes your bio sculpture nails and eyelash extensions.

As I have seen many times before the bride ‘s tension, nerves and excitement are much more present when the actual day is only a day away.  That’s why a certain amount of comfort is there between myself and the bride when I’m performing her bridal spraytan and/or other services,  a certain amount of trust that everything will be ok. . and that is why a trial bridal spraytan is vital.

Hi Everyone 

Its been a little while since my last blog but I have been rather busy with eyelash extensions and spray tans for all the girls going on holidays.

I would like to discuss the difference between a shellac gel polish and bio sculpture gel.

I am a great fan of both as both have a place in the professional nail application market.

The best way to describe Shellac is it “sits” in between a nail polish and a gel.  That is its a gel polish that can only set under ultra violet light.  However it has the same consistency as a polish because it is very thin.  Having said that you cannot build a nail with Shellac.  That is what we nail technicians refer to as the C curve…The Curvature of your nails when you look at them from a side on perspective.  That is where the Bio Sculpture Gel has its advantage.  It has building properties that can create a rounder,smoother looking nail.  Whereas  Shellac is applied on to the nail and simply follows your natural shape.  So if you have a fairly flat nail it will still look flat with Shellac, however if you are blessed with a natural C curve then Shellac may be the way for you.

Bio sculpture is stronger and flexible just like Shellac.  You can expect Bio Sculpture to last 3 weeks whereas the Shellac range will stay on 10-14 days

Eyelash extensions

These days if you walk around you will see young girls with eyelash extensions everywhere!!

There is no doubt that they are the most sought-after beauty enhancement at the moment.  There is something about our eyes that are beautiful, special and individual as we are.  No girl would ever say ‘no’ to longer eyelashes; they are sexy, innocent and seductive all at the same time!! Tell me what other part of the body can do that??

Somehow through constant media attention every girl wants to look like Kim Kardashian.  Now dont get me wrong I think she is “hot” but her lash extensions are way too long!!

I truly believe that beauty treatments/enhancements should be an extension of the person- and not something that has been designed with ‘one size fits all’ attitude.
